Eighth Conference on Women in the Military AND Positive Voice Awards

The Alliance for National Defense periodically bestows its Positive Voice Award to persons who support the military women who plan an increasingly vital role in America’s defense.
For 2009, AND President Captain Pat Gormley, JAGC, USN (Ret.), presented a Positive Voice Award to Doonesbury creator Garry Trudeau and Alliance National Advisory Council Member and conference sponsor Robert M. Kaufman and honored military women’s rights advocate Captain Barbara Brehm, USN, (Ret.).

POSITIVE VOICE AWARD 2009 GARRY TRUDEAU
Garry Trudeau gets it. Since “Doonesbury” has been published, it has included military members at war. During the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, it has recognized military women and examined the effect of sexual trauma on them. He understands the issues, he creates the scenarios, and he transmits them to a nation-wide audience in a way no one else can do. May he continue to raise his voice on their behalf! accepting the Positive Voice Award

POSITIVE VOICE AWARD 2009 CAPTAIN BARB BREHM, U.S. NAVY (Ret.)
Captain Brehm is a forceful and effective supporter of military women’s rights. Her navel career focused on equal opportunity, including Special Assistant to the Chief of Naval Personnel for Women’s Matters, Military Director, DACOWITS and on the VA committee for women veterans. On the Women Officers Professional Association and the AND Board of Directors, she provided education for Congress and coordinated with women’s groups to defeat attempts to “turn back the clock” while helping military women forge ahead. |
